Ingress: You Can’t Submit New Portals Anymore

Not long ago the button for submitting new portals disappeared from Ingress. It’s as if the developers read my mind and stopped the chaos.

So many portals had been added that in some places you can’t take a step without hitting one. That may be fine for leveling up, but it’s very inconvenient for building good, strong portals. These satellite portals just drain energy and resonators. They’re easy to take down in bulk — stand in the middle to cover as many as possible and blast them.

A live example — Gorky Park in Kharkiv:

A level 6 mess

The portals need a good, careful cleanup, and new submissions should be reviewed more strictly.

Let’s see what happens with new portal submissions in Ingress next.

Update: portal submissions came back later — today new Ingress portals are submitted through Niantic Wayfarer.
