Ingress Sojourner Onyx: 360 Days in a Row
The other day I had a kind of Ingress anniversary — I earned the Onyx Sojourner medal for 360 days of continuous play (you need at least one portal hack every 24 hours; Onyx is the highest tier).
Nothing tricky about it — I just had to remember to hack, and walk to the nearest portal on rest days when I really didn’t feel like going out ![]()
In the first months I took Saturdays off from Ingress and didn’t even open the game on principle. Then I realized the medal wouldn’t level itself that way, so I kept resting one day a week but still opened the game to keep the medal’s day counter going.
Here are my modest achievements in pictures, after about 1 year and 2 months of play.
Platinum Trekker.
1,845 km walked!
And that’s even though I didn’t run the game when I was walking the most (saving battery and resting my eyes from the screen
). Remember, these kilometers have to be walked: driving a car, bus or trolleybus doesn’t count, and a bike doesn’t really work either — riding at about 10 km/h on purpose isn’t easy.
Gold Explorer.
2,683 unique portals visited! It could have been more with a trip abroad — to Japan, say, where portals sit on top of each other ![]()
Gold Illuminator.
320,245 MUs of fields built. If I had taken part in joint field operations it would have been about 10 times more, but these are my “pure MUs”: several fairly large fields that I planned and traveled for myself (one of them took 2 weeks to build, since I could only go on weekends).
Gold Hacker.
31,297 hacks — quite a lot, you’ll agree. In the first months I hacked without glyphs; later I had to glyph-hack to get enough items ![]()
Onyx Recharger.
You could say two Onyx — I exceeded the requirement twice over ![]()
Gold Guardian.
Blue Ingress spoofers did, and keep doing, their dirty work — destroying Green players’ guardian portals. Spoofers took down about a hundred of mine, most of them in quite hidden spots. If my opponents played fair, I would have had Onyx Guardian long ago.
I’d also like to say that Ingress isn’t just stats and medals. I gained a lot of new experience, visited places I’d hardly have seen otherwise and met all kinds of people — it was worth it ![]()
