Ingress: Linking a Field near Pylypivka, Kharkiv
It was September 8, 2015. The open global Ingress map was luring me with an unfinished field near Pylypivka.
The points were found — the Donets hillfort (Donetske Horodyshche) and the monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Vasyl Pokolodny. If you have a goal, act on it ![]()
Off we go…
The Ingress Intel map with the points needed to complete the field — I took a photo of the screen so I wouldn’t miss.
I studied the exact portal names so I wouldn’t miss and ruin the link.
Portal — Donets hillfort:

Portal — the monument:

On the way to Pokotylivka I stopped at the memorial to the heroes who died for the freedom and independence of our homeland (the eternal flame in Zhykhar).
Along the way I visited other portal spots too, so the trip took much longer than just riding at full speed ![]()
I remember looking for the Donets hillfort the first time. Before this portal I didn’t even know it existed. There was no time to read up, so I just went, planning to figure it out on the spot.
But it was already late, there was no moon, and by 9 pm it was very dark. I found the road roughly with the navigator, rode to the portal — and my range wasn’t enough to reach it from the road. Sad.
I tried every angle — couldn’t reach it, about 5–10 meters short. To the right, a slope with some cars; to the left, a guardrail, a ditch and tall grass. And I needed to get just a bit closer.
I had to take off my flashlight, leave the bike on the roadside and walk into the darkness. Luckily, the portal key dropped on the first hack — I didn’t want to wait 5 minutes to hack the portal a second time.
Key obtained, portal recharged — on to the monument.
The monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Vasyl Pokolodny:
I ride up, hack, link — hooray, it worked, the field is done!
Happy, I take a selfie and head home.
On the way, of course, I keep glancing at the map looking for new portals…
P.S. A good ride, new places, and a contribution to the Enlightened cause ![]()
