Beautiful First Snow in the Park + Ingress Mission Tips

Yesterday I was near the 23 Serpnya metro station in Kharkiv — I’ve decided to complete at least one Ingress mission every day (it’s getting cold, and long evening walks like in summer won’t work anymore).

I got a bit cold, and one of the Kulinichi bakeries warmed me up. Kulinichi is a nice local thing (Kyiv doesn’t have it, for example): cheap coffee with a croissant or a Kaiser roll for about 22 UAH. McDonald’s is fine too, but there are fewer of them, and a latte alone is 20 UAH plus 20–40 UAH for a burger.

There’s a great little park at 23 Serpnya — I really like it, and yesterday it was especially unusual. A phone photo probably won’t convey the beauty, but take a look.

Warm lamp light, evening, yet everything is bright, white snow and trees all around. Next to it — a soldier monument, cannons, a memorial, benches :-) Beautiful.

A playground, paths — a place to walk both in summer and in winter. A great spot near the metro and bus stops, next to the Dovzhenko cinema.

By the way, on this optimistic note I completed 2 missions yesterday :-)

A few tips about Ingress missions:

1. Check the stated time and the task list. In Kyiv I did missions about cats: they said 15 minutes, but in reality I walked for 2 days and didn’t finish. Sometimes portals are far apart and you have to travel. Usually it’s fine, though — if it says 15 minutes, it’ll be about that (maybe 20–30 :-) ).

2. When you start a mission series made of several parts, watch the order and what the picture will look like once the whole set is complete. For example, I started the Kyiv Chestnuts series not from the beginning and didn’t finish it, so I ended up with a mess — I’ll have to reset and redo them so the picture isn’t broken.

3. Missions are laid out top to bottom and aligned to the left. So before starting a multi-part mission, make sure the bottom row is completely filled, otherwise the next picture will shift sideways (like my “Kharkiv” one).

So Ingress gives you a chance to see something new and take a walk around town :-)
