Samsung Refrigerator Model Number Decoder (RB, RT, RS)
Samsung refrigerators have unusual but meaningful model names. It turns out you shouldn’t choose by the numbers alone: the numbers aren’t a model number, they’re the capacity. Let’s decode a Samsung refrigerator model name.
The basics
- The first letter is the product type: R — refrigerator.
- The second letter is the layout: B — bottom freezer, T — top freezer, S — side-by-side, F — French door, W — wine cooler.
- The digits after the letters are the capacity: e.g. 35F — 350 L, 32F — 320 L, 29F — 290 L, 25F — 250 L.
RT models (top freezer)
- Display: A — internal display, D — external display.
- Door handle: J — bar handle, D — recessed handle.
- Features: C — Ice Max, Cool Pack, Tight Box; B — Twist Ice, Cool Pack, Tight Box; A — Twist Ice.
- Energy class: D — A+, C — A++.
- Color: SS — stainless steel, EF — beige, WW — white, SA — silver, MG — graphite.
RB models (bottom freezer)
- Display: S — internal display, E — external.
- Door handle: J — bar handle, R — hidden handles, D — recessed.
- Features: N — 1 vegetable drawer, M — 2 vegetable drawers.
- Energy class: D — A+.
- Color: SS — stainless steel, EF — beige, WW — white, SA — silver, BC — black.
Example: Samsung RB29FSRNDSA
A bottom-freezer refrigerator, 290 L total usable capacity, internal display, hidden handles, one vegetable drawer, energy class A+, silver body.
Note: this scheme applies to Samsung models of the 2010s. Newer models use longer codes, but the first letters (type and layout) and the capacity digits still mean the same. A suffix like /BWT is a color code (Black White Titanium).
