How to Check CPU, Frequency and RAM in Debian Linux (/proc/cpuinfo, lscpu)

I rented a Debian Linux VPS. Linux is different from FreeBSD, which I have worked with for a long time, so small questions keep coming up. I’ll write them down for general knowledge and so I know where to look :-).

In Linux you can check the processor type, frequency, and other characteristics in these ways:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

or the command

lscpu

but on my VPS it printed:

lscpu: error: /sys filesystem is not accessable.

It worked fine on the hosting provider’s server, but never mind, one method is enough.

It may also be worth noting how to show the CPU frequency and the amount of memory in Linux. That is enough to check whether your plan was set up correctly:

grep Hz /proc/cpuinfo
grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo

To get just the processor model and the number of cores:

grep -m1 'model name' /proc/cpuinfo
nproc
