I’d never had an iPhone, so I didn’t know this trick before :-) And it’s really simple!

iPad on a desk

Question: how do you delete apps from an iPad?

How to move icons on the iPad

Tap and hold any icon until all the icons start to wiggle. Then you can drag them around and arrange them however you like. When you’re done, press the Home button.

How to delete an app from the iPad

  1. Tap and hold any icon until the icons start to wiggle.
  2. A cross in a circle appears in the corner of the app icons.
  3. Tap the cross on the app you don’t need — a box with “Delete” and “Cancel” buttons appears.
  4. Tap “Delete”. The app is removed along with its data.

This is how you delete apps installed from the App Store (via iTunes).

If there’s no cross

  • Apple’s built-in apps (Safari, Mail, Calendar, App Store and so on) can’t be deleted — they have no cross at all.
  • Apps from Installer or Cydia (on a jailbroken iPad) are removed through the app you installed them from.
  • Via iTunes: connect the iPad to your computer, open the Apps tab in iTunes, uncheck the apps you don’t need and sync — they’ll be removed from the tablet. A reader confirmed this method in the comments.
