Canon imageRUNNER 2520 Won’t Scan Over the Network — Fix (ScanGear 2.71)
The imageRUNNER 2520 is a big, powerful, heavy multifunction device (MFP: printer, scanner, copier).
Network printing on the Canon imageRUNNER 2520 usually works without problems, and so does copying. Network scanning is where problems show up.
The cause: a “bad” version of ScanGear
The main reason a Canon imageRUNNER 2520 doesn’t scan over the network is that the wrong (“bad”) version of the ScanGear Tool software is installed.
The version that is known to work with the scanner over the network is Color Network ScanGear 2.71. Download it here: Color Network ScanGear 2.71 (x64, the original installer digitally signed by Canon Inc.), or from the official Canon site. Be careful: other versions of the program may fail to connect to the scanner.
P.S. Not long ago (Last Updated: 18-Feb-2020) Canon published a newer version, Color Network ScanGear 2 V2.27 [Windows 32-bit & 64-bit]. I can’t test it right now — maybe it works too! I’d be glad if someone tries it and reports in the comments. Until then, install Color Network ScanGear V2.71 and use the scanner over the network.
Don’t forget
On the machine itself press SCAN → Remote Scan → Online mode → Done.
Service settings
To change the imageRUNNER 2520 settings you need to enter System Manager Mode and type the system administrator ID and password. The factory default for both is:
System Manager ID — 7654321
Password — 7654321
Change them if the device is on a shared network.
