Nathan’s Car in Haven: the Blue 1979 Ford Bronco
I’ve discovered a great TV series — mystical, mysterious, intriguing, well shot and with a perfectly chosen cast. It’s Haven, loosely based on Stephen King’s novella “The Colorado Kid”.
I really liked the car Nathan drives in the show, so I went looking for which Ford model it is. It turned out to be a blue 1979 Ford Bronco with the license plate 7988QC.
What kind of car it is
The 1978–1979 Ford Bronco is the second-generation Bronco: a big two-door SUV built for only two model years. For this generation Ford made the Bronco much bigger: essentially a shortened four-wheel-drive F-100 pickup with an enclosed body and a removable rear top. Under the hood is a V8 — the 351M (5.8 L) or the 400 (6.6 L).
Its rarity, size and boxy shape are what make it so recognizable on screen. The car suits the character perfectly: a dependable, slightly old-fashioned cop from a small coastal town.
Especially among the greenery and on a good road:

About the show
- The story. FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) comes to the small town of Haven, Maine, on a case and ends up staying. The town is facing the return of “the Troubles” — residents develop strange supernatural abilities that cause trouble for themselves and everyone around them.
- The characters. Audrey works the cases together with local cop Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), the owner of that very Bronco. The third main character is the charming smuggler Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour).
- Where it’s filmed. Although the story is set in Maine, the show is shot in Canada, on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, in and around the town of Chester. That’s where the beautiful scenery in the shots above comes from.
- Where it airs. The show has been on Syfy since July 2010, and three seasons are out so far.
If you like mysticism and good TV, give it a watch — you won’t regret it, especially since Haven has been renewed for a fourth season.
