Trading Legend Stephen Kalayjian and His 50 Monitors
I’ve long been interested in remarkable people, and not long ago I learned about the legendary trader Stephen Kalayjian. What caught my attention wasn’t so much his trading achievements as his technical setup — it’s something incredible!
Just think about it: more than 50 monitors for trading in one room!
The photo shows only some of the monitors, and a BenQ made it into the frame. I wonder why he chose it: I’ve never particularly liked them, except for their low price. Here you look at the screens all day, and trading involves big money — not something to skimp on.
It’s a good thing we’ve had LCD and LED monitors for a long time instead of huge old CRTs. My very first job was at a gaming club: about 30 computers in one room and 10-hour shifts. By evening the radiation, heat and noise practically blew me out of the room
Those were wild times. I lasted a week and realized it wasn’t for me.
How many monitors does a trader need
Some say a regular Full HD monitor is enough for successful trading, others get by with a laptop, and some even manage from a phone. The point being that it’s not about screens but about understanding the market.
I partly agree: if you don’t understand the market, a hundred monitors won’t help. On the other hand, the more information you see at once, the easier it is to spot trends and the faster you can find that “golden nugget”. But people aren’t robots and have limits — then again, robots do too. In the end, it’s whatever works for you: for example, my programmer friend has two large 24-inch touchscreen monitors on his desk.
Either way, 50 monitors — I’m amazed and impressed.
