MSVCR120.dll or MSVCP120.dll Missing — Fix (Official Download)
Sometimes programs and games start demanding msvcr libraries (MSVCR110.dll, MSVCR120.dll and others) that are missing from the system or have been damaged.
These libraries come in the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages, which you can download from Microsoft’s website.
Which package contains which DLL
Redistributable packages exist for different Visual Studio years and for different systems (x86 and x64):
- MSVCR120.dll / MSVCP120.dll — Microsoft Visual C++ 2013
- MSVCR110.dll / MSVCP110.dll — Microsoft Visual C++ 2012
- MSVCR100.dll / MSVCP100.dll — Microsoft Visual C++ 2010
- MSVCR90.dll / MSVCP90.dll — Microsoft Visual C++ 2008
- MSVCR80.dll / MSVCP80.dll — Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
So you need to find and download the package that matches the missing library. The newer “2015–2022” package does not replace the 2013 one — they are installed side by side.
For example, the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 (for different systems) is available from the Microsoft Download Center.
Tip: on 64-bit Windows, install both the x86 and the x64 versions. Many 32-bit programs need the x86 one even on a 64-bit system.
Don’t download single DLL files from “DLL download” sites. They are often outdated, don’t match your system or are infected. Install the official package instead.
The lazy way
For those who don’t want to figure out which package is needed, people have built all-in-one bundles that install the full set of Visual C++ packages automatically.
I don’t use such bundles (I use the original files from Microsoft’s site), but someone may find this useful.
